Constant Attendance Allowance :Cross Stitch – Money, tax and benefits

If you need daily care and attention because of a disability and you claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit or a War Disablement Pension, you can claim Constant Attendance Allowance (CAA).

To be eligible for Constant Attendance Allowance you must be claiming one of the following:

  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • War Disablement Pension

To claim Constant Attendance Allowance you must:

  • need personal help for the same reasons that you get a war pension
  • be getting a war pension of 80 per cent or more

To find out if you’re eligible for Constant Attendance Allowance you can contact the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency helpline on:

Telephone: 0800 169 2277

Textphone: 0800 169 3458

The helpline is open from 8.15 am to 5.15 pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.15 am to 4.30 pm on Fridays.

You’ll get Constant Attendance Allowance at one of four different rates, depending on the extent of your disability and the amount of care you need:

exceptional rate

£126.60

intermediate rate

£94.95

normal maximum rate

£63.30

part-time rate

£31.65

If you’re refused Constant Attendance Allowance or if you have any queries about your payment, you can ask the Jobcentre Plus office that dealt with your claim to look again at their decision.

If you’re still unhappy with the outcome, you can appeal.

If you get ‘exceptional rate’ or ‘intermediate rate’ Constant Attendance Allowance, you may also be able to get Exceptionally Severe Disablement Allowance. You can contact the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency or your local Jobcentre Plus office for advice.
